The Competition
So, it looks like Spotify has some competition from a streaming audio source called MOG. If you've been paying attention, then you know I detest Spotify and everything it stands for. Well, having just found an article on The Guardian UK that tells me MOG may be even worse at paying artists, I am not pleased by this new development. It seems that once again some freeloading yuppie (that's not the contradiction you might think) has decided to take advantage of other people's intellectual property and is now offering it up as a free meal to unscrupulous "fans" who want everything for free.
In reading this article, the attitude of the CEO makes me want to puke. He "can't disclose [their] structure," but he would say that what the artists get paid is up to the record labels...The idea that he's unwilling to fully disclose their business structure suggests shady dealings which will ultimately screw the artists over. Read the article for more alarming comments from the MOG CEO. If you're an artist, or you respect the right of an artist to be paid for their art, then his comments and attitude should worry you.

So, is this supposedly the latest incarnation of Napster?

Yeah, basically. If you haven't read any of my rantings about Spotify, you should check those out; there's one that has a payout chart showing what different services pay the artists.
