The Trip: Day 6
Day 6
San Antonio, Texas to New Orleans, Louisiana
This leg of the journey was pretty uneventful until we hit the construction on the Katy Freeway (aka I-10). We were shunted off onto a Frontage road as the freeway was completely closed down. It's interesting to see how little attention some people pay to road signs; there were multiple signs informing drivers that all traffic must exit the freeway. Dozens of people completely ignored them, and some ignored them long enough to get bogged down in the traffic and then they drove through the median to get to the Frontage Road...

BELOW: Major construction around Katy, Texas.
I can't remember exactly where, (I probably blocked it out in a fog of anger) but somewhere between this and Houston my parents changed drivers. This put my mother driving through Houston on the I-10...My dad had been sleeping in the back and about 2/3 of the way through Houston he woke up to find us talking. Instead of finding out what we were talking about, (how best to stay on the I-10) he just assumed it was idle chatter and told us to stop talking (my dad can be a bit chauvinistic about some things, and driving is one of those things). Of course, that attitude put me in a right cranky mood and I've been pretty much irritated as hell ever since.
But, beyond that, the trip that day was pretty uneventful...
